Posted: Thursday, April 21, 2011

The Minnesota Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the General Rules of Practice for the District Courts has begun a review of proposed Family Court Rules changes submitted by members of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML).  The proposed Family Court Rules changes were developed at an AAML conference called Divorce Camp 2009 that was attended by a number of family law judges, attorneys, court staff and other professionals.

A copy of the proposed Family Court Rules changes is attached to this notice.  Deletions are shown as strikeout text, and additions are shown as underlined text.  The existing advisory committee comments are also included.  Comments from the 2009 Divorce Camp conference (labeled “camp comments” and enclosed in boxes) explain the proposed changes.

Any person interested in providing the advisory committee with written comments on the proposed Family Court Rules changes shall submit those comments in writing to advisory committee staff Mike Johnson at 140 Judicial Center, 25 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, St. Paul, Minnesota 55155, or Michael.Johnson@courts.state.mn.us no later than June 1, 2011.

In the weeks following the June 1, 2011, deadline, the advisory committee will meet to review written comments timely submitted, and then make a written report to the Supreme Court.
