Supreme Court Announces Vacancy for Public Member Position on Board Of Law Examiners

A public member position is open on the nine-member Minnesota State Board of Law Examiners. The all-volunteer Board is made up of seven lawyers and two public members.
The Board is responsible for the administration of the Minnesota Bar Exam, as well as overseeing bar applicants’ character and fitness investigation and certification process. The members of the Board meet nine times per year for meetings and hearings that range in length from four to eight hours. An additional two or three hours of preparation is required prior to meetings and hearings.
The Board reviews policy and administrative issues, oversees the bar examination process, and conducts due process hearings for applicants who are denied admission because of lack of fitness or eligibility for admission. Public members are voting members and participate fully in all matters. The Board employs a director and a staff of 10. Board members are reimbursed for costs of travel and lodging, if necessary.
