Important upgrade coming to eFile and eServe system on May 18

Posted: Monday, May 11, 2015

The Minnesota Judicial Branch is implementing an important upgrade to the eFile and eServe (eFS) system, which will improve the user experience for those electronically filing and serving documents in Minnesota district courts.

Electronic filing and service of court documents is currently available in 11 pilot counties throughout Minnesota (Cass, Clay, Cook, Dakota, Faribault, Hennepin, Kandiyohi, Lake, Morrison, Ramsey, and Washington counties). Today, filers can experience variations in the configuration of the eFS system, depending on which district court they are filing documents in.

On Monday, May 18, the Minnesota Judicial Branch will establish a standard, statewide eFS system configuration, providing filers across the state a consistent and reliable user experience. In addition to improving and simplifying the eFS process, establishing a uniform system configuration will also help the Judicial Branch improve support services offered to filers.

Establishing a standard eFS system configuration is a key step toward a statewide expansion of electronic filing and service. Under recent amendments to the Minnesota Rules of Court adopted by the Minnesota Supreme Court, attorneys, government agencies, and guardians ad litem will be required to use the eFS system in all cases filed in the 11 pilot counties starting on July 1, 2015. Those same groups will be required to use the eFS system in all 87 Minnesota counties effective July 1, 2016.

The Minnesota Judicial Branch has prepared two items to prepare system users for the new eFS standard configuration:

Both items can be found at http://www.mncourts.gov/efile. Current and potential eFS system users are encouraged to review these items before May 18.

In order to allow for the implementation of this upgrade, the eFS system will not be available on May 15, 2015, starting at 5:00 p.m., and may remain unavailable until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015.  During this time, users will be unable to electronically file or serve documents. To assist in the timely implementation of the system upgrade, users are asked to log off the eFS system by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
