St. Louis County justice partners hold “warrant workout day” in Duluth on May 13

Posted: Tuesday, May 3, 2016

On Friday, May 13, the St. Louis County criminal justice community is sponsoring a “warrant workout” event at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Duluth. The event will offer anyone with an outstanding Minnesota arrest warrant an opportunity to meet with justice system officials and take steps to resolve their case. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Visitors to the event will be able to speak with public defenders and prosecuting attorneys, and arrange to pay any outstanding fines. For the benefit of those who have traffic-related warrants, a representative from the Driver Diversion program will also be present to provide information about the program and possible options for a path towards driver’s license reinstatement.

“Having an outstanding arrest warrant can lead to a lot of headaches,” said Amy Turnquist, St. Louis County Court Administrator. “Anyone with an active warrant can be arrested at any time, and will often face at least a night in jail if arrested. By coming to this event, individuals with an outstanding warrant can meet directly with a judge and other officials, figure out how to begin resolving their case, and hopefully avoid facing arrest or other negative consequences down the road.”

Those interested in the event can call St. Louis County Court Administration at (218) 726-2460 to verify their warrant status and to learn more about the event.

The May 13 “warrant workout” event is a joint effort of many community organizations. In addition to St. Louis County District Court judges, representatives from the following organizations will be on hand:
  • Minnesota State Public Defender's Office
  • Duluth City Attorney's Office
  • St. Louis County Attorney's Office
  • Hermantown City Attorney's Office
  • Proctor City Attorney's Office
  • St. Louis County Probation Office
  • Driver Diversion Program
