REMINDER: Ramsey County judges to host community listening session in St. Paul on Wednesday

Posted: Monday, October 9, 2017

The judges and staff of Minnesota’s Second Judicial District are inviting members of the public to a community listening session in St. Paul the evening of Wednesday, October 11. The free, open-to-the-public event will be held at the Wilder Center, located at 451 Lexington Parkway North in Saint Paul, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

During the event, attendees will meet in small groups with judges and court staff, and have the opportunity to provide face-to-face input about Minnesota’s judicial system, the work of the Second Judicial District, and their personal experiences in Ramsey County District Court. Following these discussions, each of the judges will report on the key themes that emerged in their small groups, and court leaders will then discuss how the Second Judicial District will use the input provided at the event.

“While Minnesota is recognized as having one of the most accessible court systems in the country, we know that there are always ways we can strive to improve how we serve the people in our state,” said Second Judicial District Chief Judge John H. Guthmann. “It is important that the people of Minnesota have a voice in how our courts work, and my colleagues and I are looking forward to meeting with members of the community and listening to their ideas and feedback.”

The October 11 community listening session is being planned and organized by the Second Judicial District Equal Justice Committee. All 10 of Minnesota’s judicial districts have an equal justice committee, which partner with the Minnesota Judicial Branch Committee for Equality and Justice to advance efforts to eliminate bias from court operations, promote equal access to the court, and inspire a high level of trust and public confidence in the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
