Posted: Wednesday, March 28, 2018

Sixth Judicial District Judge Shaun R. Floerke has been appointed to the National Judicial Opioid Task Force. The Task Force, which formed in September 2017, is comprised of judges, probation officers, attorneys, and representatives from children and family services.

The Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators established the Task Force to make recommendations that address the opioid epidemic’s ongoing impact on the justice system. The misuse of opioids such as heroin, morphine, and prescription pain medicines is not only a devastating public health crisis; it is critically affecting the administration of justice in courthouses throughout the United States.

Judge Floerke was appointed to the Sixth Judicial District bench in 2004, and served as chief judge of the District from July 1, 2012, through June 3, 2016. He is a member and co-chair of the Treatment Court Initiative Advisory Committee, and founding member and Presiding Judge of the South St. Louis County DWI Court which is one of four courts recognized by the National Center for DWI Courts Academy Court Network as a national model for DWI Courts. Judge Floerke has extensive experience in public speaking and training at the local and national level. He is a faculty trainer with both the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the National Center for DWI Courts. He is chambered in Duluth.
