Chief Justice Gildea’s statement on Governor Walz’s budget proposal

Today, Governor Tim Walz proposed a budget that includes the entire request of the Minnesota Judicial Branch. The Judicial Branch budget request calls for two additional district court judges and seeks funding to eliminate the mandated psychological services deficit, stabilize five treatment courts that will run out of federal grant funding, enhance cyber security, and provide employee and judge compensation increases.

“The courts are one of the first promises made in our Constitution. Enhancing the core functions of Minnesota’s court system is essential to our democracy, preserving the rule of law, and protecting public safety,” said Chief Justice Gildea. “I thank Governor Walz for recognizing the importance of the courts and his support for the Judicial Branch budget request.”
