A new Continuing Legal Education (CLE) presentation for those who wish to learn about the new Juvenile Protection Court Rules has been announced. The presentation, “What You Need to Know about the New Juvenile Protection Rules,” will cover the new version of the Rules, which will go into effect on September 1, 2019.

The in-person CLEs are free and open to attorneys, Guardians ad Litem, and social workers who practice in juvenile protection matters. No registration is required. In total there will be 14 opportunities at 12 locations in Minnesota; four of those locations will have remote access for people who are unable to join in person.

“The Advisory Committee worked to develop the newly reorganized Juvenile Protection Rules over the course of a year,” said Senior Judge John R. McBride, Chair of the Advisory Committee on the Rules of Juvenile Protection, Adoption, and Guardian Ad Litem Procedure.  “The changes to the Rules will make them more clear, understandable, and user-friendly. I strongly encourage all legal professionals who work with juveniles to participate in a training session to learn about the changes and ensure they can get any questions answered.”

While the amended Rules have the same content, they have been revised to simplify and improve usability, and to track Minnesota’s statutory scheme. The Juvenile Protection
Rules have also been amended to be consistent with updated laws and regulations related to the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA).
