Elizabeth Strand Appointed to Tenth Judicial District Court


Today, Governor Mark Dayton announced the appointment of Ms. Elizabeth H. Strand as a District Court judge in Minnesota's Tenth Judicial District. Ms. Strand will replace the Honorable Donald J. Venne who will retire later this summer. This seat will be chambered in Buffalo in Wright County in Minnesota’s Tenth Judicial District.

About the appointment Governor Mark Dayton said, “I am confident Ms. Strand will be an excellent judge in the Tenth Judicial District.  She has a long record of public service and community involvement that will serve her well on the bench.”

Ms. Strand serves as the Buffalo and Annandale Prosecuting Attorney where she is the sole provider of city prosecution services for Buffalo and Annandale. Within this role, she is responsible for prosecution of all gross misdemeanor driving offenses, all misdemeanor offenses, and all petty misdemeanor offenses. Ms. Strand also maintains a private family law practice where she represents clients in diverse family matters. She previously served as an Assistant Public Defender with the Tenth Judicial District and was an associate attorney with Cundy & Martin, L.L.C. and the Beaulier Law Office. Ms. Strand received a B.A. in Medical Ethics with distinction from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1992, and a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul in 1998.

Throughout her career, Ms. Strand has worked to provide legal services and assistance to low income individuals; volunteering with the Wright County Free Law Clinic and acting as a reference attorney at Chrysalis. She also frequently offers teaching services within Wright County. Ms. Strand resides with her family in Buffalo.

Minnesota’s Tenth Judicial District consists of Anoka, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Pine, Sherburne, Washington and Wright counties.
