About Probate / Mental Health Court
Probate Court has jurisdiction over cases involving the disposition of property belonging to deceased persons; administration of court-supervised trusts; and actions to create guardianships and conservatorships for minor children and incapacitated or incompetent adults. Probate Court operates under the Uniform Probate Code of the MN Statutes Ch. 524 and Ch. 525, and the MN Rules of Civil Procedure.
Mental Health Court is governed by MN Statutes Ch. 253B, and is responsible for deciding whether to commit persons to treatment centers when there are allegations of mental illness, developmental disability, chemical dependency, psychopathic personality and referrals from Criminal Court.
The Probate/Mental Health Court is located on 4th and 5th floors of the Courts Tower in the Hennepin Co. Govt. Center. Please allow extra time for weapons screening when you visit the courthouse.
