Valentine's Eve - Free Weddings

Register in
advance

Before your wedding day, please complete these steps:

Step 1.
Send an email to Nancy.Peters@courts.state.mn.us with the following information:

-  Names of the applicants
-  Mailing address
-  Phone number(s) (daytime)

You will receive a confirmation number and checklist.

Step 2.
Apply for and obtain a marriage license by February 7, 2015, at the Hennepin County Service Center.

Step 3.
Review Marriage Ceremonies for general information.

Note: Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Marriage ceremony in Spanish is available upon advance request.

Pre-ceremony
Check-in at 11:30 AM

Go to the check-in tables on the skyway level of the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis.

You must bring the following:

  • Marriage license issued by Service Center
  • Photo IDs presented by both applicants
  • 5-day waiver application completed and signed by a judge (if applicable)

Two (2) witnesses must be present at your ceremony. Couples may use court staff (at no charge) or provide their own witnesses.

Ceremony
  • Welcome by Judge William Koch
  • Music
  • Marriage ceremonies performed by judges at no charge
Post-ceremony
  • Judge and witnesses sign the marriage license
  • Couple receives souvenir copy of marriage license
  • Judge returns the signed marriage license to the Vital Records Unit at the Hennepin County Service Center who issues the final marriage license/certificate
