Committee Seeks Comment On Code Of Judicial Conduct Recommendations Including Posted Recommendations

The Supreme Court Advisory Committee to Review the Minnesota Code of Judicial Conduct, chaired by E. Thomas Sullivan of the University of Minnesota, has reviewed the Minnesota Code of Judicial Conduct and the 2007 ABA Model Code of Judicial Conduct. The Advisory Committee is preparing a draft of its recommendations which will be available on the Minnesota Judicial Branch Web site on or about September 21, 2007. These proposals arise out of the consideration of the decision of the United States Supreme Court and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in relation to Canon 5 and review of the ABA Model Code. In order to obtain the broadest public input on the recommendations prior to submission to the Supreme Court, the Committee is seeking comment from the public.
The Committee will hold a public hearing on October 17, 2007, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Minnesota Judicial Center, Room 230, 25 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN, 55155. Interested persons may make oral presentations of not more than 10 minutes by submitting a request to Judy Rehak, Committee staff, by e-mail or at 140 Minnesota Judicial Center, 25 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN, 55155. All persons, including members of the Bench and Bar, desiring to present a written statement concerning the Committee’s recommendations, shall file such statement with Judy Rehak at the above address or by e-mail on or before October 15, 2007.
