Criminal Court Filing Statistics

In 2015, the total number of Criminal Court filings was 50165, continuing the downward trend in Criminal Court filings since 2012.

Felony Filings

While the total number of filings were down in 2015 compared to 2014, the number of Felony filings in 2015 was up from 2014. While there were increases in Weapons, Drug, Property, Other Person, and "Other" Felonies, the number of Homicides and Sex Crimes Criminal filings were down.

The number of homicide cases filed were 83 in 2013, 90 in 2014, and 66 in 2015. The number of sex crime cases filed were 135 in 2013, 166 in 2014, and 134 in 2015. The number of “other” felony cases filed were 757 in 2013, 666 in 2014, and 758 in 2015. The number of property crimes filed were 1,382 in 2013, 1,314 in 2014, and 1,344 in 2015. The number of “other person” felony cases filed were 1,791 in 2013, 1,675 in 2014, and 1,806 in 2015.
 

Non-Felony Filings

In total, non-Felony filings (Gross Misdemeanors, Misdemeanors, and Petty Misdemeanors) were down for the fourth year in a row in 2015. Gross Misdemeanor and Common Misdemeanor filings were down compared to 2014, while more Petty Misdemeanors were filed in 2015 than 2014.

Non-Felony Filings, by Division

When breaking out the number of non-Felony filings by the division in which the cases were filed, there was a drop in the number of filings Downtown, with slight increases in all of the suburban districts.
