Criminal Court Filing Statistics

In 2017, the total number of Criminal Court filings was 411,278. There has been a downward trend in overall Criminal Court filings between 2012 and 2016.


 

Felony Filings

The total number of filings were up significantly in 2017 compared to 2014-2016. From 2016 to 2017, the number of filings for all types of felonies increased. 


 

Non-Felony Filings

In total, non-felony filings (Gross Misdemeanors, Misdemeanors, and Petty Misdemeanors) were down in 2017 compared to 2016. Gross Misdemeanor filings were up between 2016 and 2017, while there was a drop in Misdemeanor and and Petty Misdemeanor filings. 


 

Non-Felony Filings, by Division

When breaking out the number of non-felony filings by the division in which the cases were filed, between 2016 and 2017 there was a decrease in the number of filings Downtown, Ridgedale, and Southdale, while non-felony filings in Brookdale increased slightly. All divisions had fewer non-felony filings in 2016 compared to 2013.
