Criminal Court Filing Statistics

In 2016, the total number of Criminal Court filings was 437,795. Although this represented a slight increase over 2015, there has been a downward trend in overall Criminal Court filings between 2012 and 2016.


 

Felony Filings

The total number of filings were up slightly in 2016 compared to 2015 and 2014. From 2015 to 2016, the number of filings for homicides, weapons felonies, and drug felonies decreased, while filings for sex crimes, "other" felonies, property felonies, and other person felonies increased. 


 

Non-Felony Filings

In total, non-Felony filings (Gross Misdemeanors, Misdemeanors, and Petty Misdemeanors) were up slightly in 2016, after a decline from 2013-2015. Gross Misdemeanor and Petty Misdemeanor filings were up slightly between 2015 and 2016, while there was a drop in Misdemeanor filings. All types of non-felony filings were lower in 2016 than in 2013. 


 

Non-Felony Filings, by Division

When breaking out the number of non-Felony filings by the division in which the cases were filed, between 2015 and 2016 there was a slight increase in the number of filings Downtown and Brookdale, with slight decreases in Ridgedale and Southdale. All divisions had fewer non-felony filings in 2016 compared to 2013.
