The Minnesota Supreme Court Announces Two Attorney Vacancies on the Minnesota State Board of Legal Certification

The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking two attorney member applicants for the 12-member Minnesota State Board of Legal Certification. Board members serve three-year terms and may be reappointed once. The term for the current vacancies begins on January 1, 2025 and runs through December 31, 2027.
The all-volunteer Board is responsible for accrediting agencies to certify lawyers as specialists in designated fields of law. The Board reviews and evaluates program applications, adopts a definition for each specialty field of law, reviews Board policies and procedures, and considers appeals of denied applicant agencies. The Board shares a director and staff with the Board of Law Examiners, Board of Continuing Legal Education, and the Lawyer Registration Office.
The Board meets approximately three times per year in St. Paul. Meetings last from one and one-half to two hours. An hour or less of preparation is usually required prior to Board meetings. In addition, members are asked to serve on one or more committees that are responsible for matters such as examination review or review of proposed changes to program standards.
Board members are reimbursed for costs of travel and lodging, if necessary.
