Amendments to Minnesota Court Rules

This email is a courtesy reminder that amendments to Minnesota’s Rules of Civil Procedure, General Rules of Practice, and Rules of Public Access will go into effect on January 1, 2021.  The amended rules will:

  • Expand administrative rejection of documents when filers fail to separate public and non-public information.
  • Create a universal cover sheet for non-public documents.
  • Accelerate the administrative striking process if court administration see non-public information in a public court filing.

Several free Continuing Legal Education (CLE) training opportunities have been offered to discuss these amendments, and two additional free CLE sessions are scheduled for January 5 and January 21.  Information about the CLE sessions and the rules amendments is available on the What You Need to Know: Important Amendments to Court Rules webpage.

The amended rules have been posted on the Court Rules.  You should review the amended rules thoroughly, to ensure you understand how they will apply to your filings in 2021.
