Book Chronicling Career History of Justice Rosalie Wahl to be Presented to Minnesota State Law Library June 9

The book, which will be catalogued in the state law library’s Special Collections Room, includes Justice Wahl’s personal papers, a bibliography of the Justice’s court opinions and an essay written by a legal scholar that evaluates the impact of the honoree’s decisions in the development of Minnesota law. Tributes, lectures, news articles and photographs are also included in the book.
This practice began in 1981 with a book presentation to Justice Fallon Kelly. Justice Wahl’s book is the 12th in a series meant to preserve a lasting written record of his or her influence on the court.
A William Mitchell College of Law graduate, Wahl was appointed to the Court by Gov. Rudy Perpich in 1977. She served there until her retirement Aug. 31, 1994. She was chairwoman of the Minnesota Task Force on Gender Fairness in the Courts and was the court liaison to the Minnesota State Board of Law Examiners. Before her Supreme Court appointment, she taught at William Mitchell and the University of Minnesota, and worked as an assistant state public defender.
Ceremony participants will include Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Kathleen A. Blatz, Supreme Court Justice Alan C. Page and Justice Joan Ericksen Lancaster, former Supreme Court Chief Justice A.M. Keith, as well as family and friends of Wahl.
What: Presentation of a book chronicling the career history of former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Rosalie E. Wahl, the first woman to serve on the Minnesota Supreme Court.
When: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2000. A reception will follow.
