Chief Justice Blatz, Former Law School Dean Robert Stein to Lead Dialogue on Freedom in Minneapolis

CHICAGO, April 30, 2002 – Chief Justice Kathleen A. Blatz of the Minnesota Supreme Court and American Bar Association Executive Director and former University of Minnesota Law School Dean Robert A. Stein will lead the first Minneapolis “Dialogue on Freedom” May 2 at South High School in Minneapolis. This program is part of a nationwide initiative, conceived by Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court, to engage high school students in a discussion of American democracy and diversity in a post-Sept. 11 world. Chief Justice Blatz and Stein will conduct the discussion with 20 South High School 11th and 12th graders, half of whom are Ethiopian.
In observance of Law Day, similar events are taking place in various locations around the country, featuring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), U.S. Rep. Tom Allen (D-Maine), Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, and others.
