Court of Appeals Judge Matthew Johnson to Step Down as Chief Judge

Governor thanks judge for his service, will promptly appoint a new Chief Judge
Today in a letter to Governor Mark Dayton, current Court of Appeals Chief Judge Matthew Johnson announced that he will not seek reappointment as Chief Judge when his term ends on October 31, 2013. Chief Judge Johnson will continue his service on the Minnesota Court of Appeals as an associate judge following the appointment of his successor.
Following the news of Chief Judge Johnson’s decision, Governor Dayton issued the following statement: “Throughout his career, Judge Matthew Johnson has displayed an admirable commitment to public service and to our system of justice. I thank him for his outstanding leadership during his term as Chief Judge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. I look forward to his continuing service on the Court of Appeals.”
Governor Dayton will promptly undertake the appointment of a new Chief Judge to ensure an orderly transition on the Court.
