Drug Court Supporters Rally, Visit with Legislators

Supporters of Minnesota’s drug courts held a rally in the State Capitol Rotunda on Monday, March 18, to celebrate the effectiveness of drug courts in rehabilitating drug-addicted offenders.  After the rally, participants and drug court professionals visited with legislators.

Speakers included Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Gildea; Governor Mark Dayton; Chisago County District Court Judge Robert Rancourt; Clay County District Court Judge Lisa Borgen; Dakota County Attorney Jim Backstrom; Ramsey County Attorney John Choi; Katie Kramer, on behalf of Senator Al Franken; Samuel Clark, on behalf of Senator Amy Klobuchar; and three drug court graduates.

Speakers told the audience that drug courts are a proven solution that saves lives, reunites families, and saves taxpayers money. Minnesota is home to 37 drug courts serving adults, juveniles, families, DWI offenders, the mentally ill, and veterans.
