Hundreds of Court Cases Resolved During StandDown Event for Minnesota Veterans

Veterans finalized traffic and other court matters before judges at the 22nd Annual Minnesota StandDown event, which was held August 5 and 6 at the Boy Scout Basecamp at Fort Snelling.
Judges, together with attorneys, court clerks, and a court reporter resolved hundreds of cases throughout the two-day event. The criminal section alone helped 48 defendants with a total of 177 cases and citations. In 2013, the clinic helped 30 defendants resolve 143 cases and citations.
Judge Kerry Meyer, Presiding Judge of the Fourth Judicial District (Hennepin County) Veterans Court, offered the following statement about the event:
“These StandDown events are tremendously important for our veterans, who are able to get great services and the assistance they may need and deserve.
Attorneys provided free legal advice for civil and criminal matters. We were able to help many veterans finalize their traffic matters. Traffic cases ranged from an outstanding fine from 2003 to a very recent ticket that was not set for court until October.
Most of the veterans approached the attorneys and the court because they wanted to take an important step toward getting a valid driver’s license. It is great to be part of an event that allows veterans to address past mistakes and help them move forward.”
