The Minnesota Supreme Court is calling for a lawyer member to serve a three‑year term beginning January 1, 2027, on the nine‑member, all‑volunteer Board of Law Examiners. The selected applicant may be eligible for reappointment for two additional three‑year terms.
What the Board Does:
- Administers the Uniform Bar Examination in Minnesota.
- Oversees the character‑and‑fitness investigation and certification of every bar applicant.
- Conducts due‑process hearings for candidates denied admission on fitness or eligibility grounds.
- Reviews policy and administrative matters to keep the Board’s operations effective and forward‑looking.
Board Involvement & Benefits:
- Members of the board meet nine times per year for meetings and hearings, ranging in length from 4-8 hours. An additional 2-3 hours of preparation is required prior to meetings and hearings.
- Board members serve on various committees doing focused work that meet a few times each year.
- Members’ travel and lodging costs are reimbursed, if necessary.
