Minnesota Judges and Justices Participate in 8th Annual Court Cookout at St. Paul's Dorothy Day Center

Minnesota Supreme Court justices, Court of Appeals judges, a retired Supreme Court justice, retired Court of Appeals judges, law clerks, and court staff served lunch to people at the Dorothy Day Center in St. Paul on Friday, May 28, 2010.  Members of the Minnesota Judicial Branch are committed to community service.  This annual barbecue is one of the many efforts to reach out to the people they serve.

"It is an honor for us to be able to participate in this event," said Judge Jill Flaskamp Halbrooks, co-chair of the committee that organizes the event for the courts.  "We look forward to it each year.  It is very rewarding to be able to reach out and provide a special meal for people in need."

John Campbell, Cherry Hill Meat Company, Taylors Falls, Minnesota, provided 1000 beef patties for the annual cookout.  Cherry Hill Meat has been the meat supplier for this event since its inception.  Ice cream parfaits were provided by Louis Henry and the Marion Street McDonald's restaurant.

"Having the opportunity to talk with clients and share a sense of community are the highlights of the day. It's wonderful working with the Dorothy Day Center and their great staff to provide this community service," said Retired Judge Jim Randall.
