Minnesota Supreme Court Announces Additional Appointment to Commission on Judicial Selection

ST. PAUL, MN (Oct. 15, 2003) - The Minnesota Supreme Court has appointed Jean S. Tews of Mahtomedi as a new member of the Commission on Judicial Selection. Tews will represent the Tenth Judicial District.
In announcing its appointments to the Commission on Judicial Selection on October 8, 2003, the Minnesota Supreme Court also reappointed Annamarie Daley, Minneapolis, as an at-large member in addition to new member Karen Himle, Minnetonka.
The Commission on Judicial Selection consists of 49 members, including both attorneys and non-attorneys: 27 appointed by the Governor and 22 appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court. According to state law, the Minnesota Supreme Court appoints two at-large members and two members from each of the state"s 10 judicial districts. In the event of judicial vacancies, the Commission screens judicial candidates and makes recommendations to the Governor for district court judgeships and Workers" Compensation Court of Appeals positions.
The Supreme Court will announce in the future one additional member representing the Second Judicial District and one member representing the Tenth Judicial District.
The Governor announced his appointments to the Commission on March 20, 2003.
