Public Notice Detail
Minnesota Supreme Court Announces Visit to Mankato Area
Posted: Friday, September 14, 2001
The state’s highest court will also hear oral arguments of an actual case at Mankato Area Public Schools East High the morning of October 10. Mankato area students will pack the auditorium to hear the case and ask questions of the justices. Local government access television stations will rebroadcast the program. Following oral arguments, the justices will eat lunch with students and visit classrooms at schools throughout the region.
The visit is part of a biannual program that seeks to demystify the court system for students and build the public’s trust and confidence in the judicial branch.
While the East High program is focused on high school students, all members of the public are invited to the Midwest Wireless Civic Center in Mankato on October 9 to meet the Supreme Court Justices, ask questions and enjoy a dinner of Chicken Dijon or a potato filled with fresh vegetables. Dinner will include wild rice, vegetables, fresh rolls, desert and refreshments.
Tickets for the dinner can be purchased for $10 by calling (507) 388-5204, extension 4.
Since the Supreme Court convened oral arguments in Rochester, MN in 1995, the school visits have taken center stage in the Court’s efforts to improve the public’s understanding of the judiciary’s work. The Mankato visit marks the 14th in-school oral argument for the Court.
