Minnesota Supreme Court Hears Oral Arguments at Red Wing High School

The Minnesota Supreme Court took a trip to Red Wing for Traveling Oral Arguments at Red Wing High School on Thursday, May 7.

The justices heard oral arguments for a real case in front of hundreds of Red Wing High School students. Afterward, the justices held a Q&A with students, then toured Red Wing High School with student guides and chatted with them about their roles on the Supreme Court.

Justice Anne McKeig also presented Chief Justice Natalie Hudson a plaque to celebrate Justice Hudson’s career as her retirement approaches later this year.

The school happened to be celebrating “Hawaiian Day” on the day of the Supreme Court visit, so for the Q&A session with the students, the justices dressed in Hawaiian shirts and leis to celebrate alongside the students!

The justices also met with Prairie Island Indian Community Tribal Court judges and court staff on Wednesday, May 6, to discuss how the Supreme Court and Tribal Courts can work together to support Native American communities in Minnesota.
