Ninth Judicial District Names Maatz as New Administrator

BEMIDJI, MN (Nov. 17, 2000) – Paul W. Maatz will become the new administrator of the Ninth Judicial District of Northwest Minnesota on November 22.  He replaces D.J. Hanson, who left the position after 17 years to become the South Dakota State Court Administrator.

Covering nearly one-third of the state, the Ninth District is the largest judicial district in Minnesota in terms of land area.

"This district has some of the best, most progressive judges and court administrators in the state,” Maatz said. “I look forward to continuing my work with them as we strive to provide excellent service to Ninth District citizens.”

Maatz, 49, has served as the Ninth District Deputy Court Administrator for nine years. Prior to that, he worked as court administrator in Clay County (Moorhead), MN and Lac qui Parle County (Madison), MN.

A native of Bellingham, MN, Maatz graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. He is also a fellow of the Institute for Court Management, which is operated by the National Center for State Courts in Williamsburg, Va.

The Ninth Judicial District office, located in Bemidji, oversees the administration of the courts in Northwest Minnesota. Counties included in the Ninth District are Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau.
