Retired Court of Appeals Chief Judge Edward Toussaint, Jr. Presented with Advocate Award

Retired Court of Appeals Chief Judge Edward Toussaint, Jr. was presented with the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) 2012 Advocate Award on April 24.

Each year the MSBA Civil Litigation Section presents the award to an individual who has made a significant contribution to improving the system of civil justice in Minnesota.

Among the factors considered by the MSBA Civil Litigation Section Governing Council are whether the nominee:

  • brought about structural improvements in the civil litigation system
  • advanced the cause of under-represented groups in the civil litigation system
  • demonstrated a commitment to the civil litigation system over years of service
  • improved the civil litigation system without receiving appropriate recognition

Judge Toussaint was appointed Chief Judge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals in 1995. He retired from the bench in 2011 and joined the William Mitchell College of Law faculty as a distinguished professor of law and associate dean of Multicultural Affairs.
