Shape the Future of Continuing Legal Education and Lawyer Registration in Minnesota and Join the Minnesota State Board of Continuing Legal Education.

The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking two non-attorney members to join the 13‑member Minnesota State Board of Continuing Legal Education. The board, comprised of three members of the public, nine attorneys, and one judge, is vital to ensure attorneys in the state are in compliance with their CLE and lawyer registration requirements.

 

What Does This Board Do?

  • Evaluates and approves continuing legal education programs offered in Minnesota (and elsewhere) to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Manages the system that records how many education credits each attorney completes each year.
  • Oversees the process for suspending a lawyer for failing to complete their required credits
  • Oversees the annual license‑renewal process and suspends lawyers for nonpayment.
  • Considers and resolves attorney and sponsor appeals regarding course accreditation or other CLE‑related issues.
  • Addresses matters related to lawyer registration.

 

Who Are You?

  • An member of the public interested in ensuring quality education for Minnesota’s legal professionals.
  • A good communicator comfortable reviewing written material and speaking up in discussion.
  • Able to commit to approximately 4 meetings each year in St. Paul, for 2-3 hours each.
