Posted: Friday, December 6, 2002
Golden will direct the State Law Library, the oldest continuing library in Minnesota. She replaces Marvin Anderson, who retired on September 10, 2002, at the end of 22 years of service.
Golden, who began working for the Law Library in 1983 as the head of outreach services, was most recently the electronic services librarian. Prior to that, she served as the head of public services at the Hennepin County Law Library from 1976-1983, and as a librarian at the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1971-1976. She received her bachelor’s degree from Hamline University in St. Paul in 1970, her master’s degree in library science from the University of Minnesota in 1971 and her juris doctorate degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul in 1980.
Golden is co-author of Minnesota Legal Research Guide, which was published in 1985 and has been the authoritative book in this area since its publication. She has published numerous other articles, and has presented at local and national conferences. In 1985, she received the Law Librarianship Award from the Minnesota Association of Law Libraries. She has also received the Outstanding Law Librarian of 1987 Award from Legal Information Alert and the Outstanding Alumna of William Mitchell College of Law Award in 2000.
The Minnesota State Law Library is one of the state’s oldest institutions. It was created along with the Territory of Minnesota by the same act of Congress on March 3, 1849. In a small room in Saint Paul’s Central House, the Library opened for business that summer. Since then, it has built a collection that includes briefs and opinions of the state Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, as well as general legal resources. It is currently housed at the Minnesota Judicial Center, 25 Constitution Avenue in St. Paul.
