Supreme Court Approves Amendments to the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct

The Minnesota State Bar Association and the Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board filed a joint petition proposing amendments to the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct and amendments to the comments to those rules based on recommendations made by the American Bar Association Commission on Ethics 20/20.  The petition asked the court to approve the proposed rule amendments and acknowledge the proposed amendments to the comments to those rules.  By order filed September 19, 2014, the court opened a public comment period extending through November 18, 2014.  Written comments were received from two members of the bar.  The court has reviewed the written comments submitted regarding the proposed amendments.

The joint petition of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board is granted as to the proposed rule amendments.  The amendments to the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct as approved are attached to the order.  The comments to the rules are included for convenience and do not reflect court approval or adoption.
