The Minnesota Supreme Court Announces a Public Member Vacancy on the Client Security Board

One public (non-attorney) member is being sought to fill a vacancy on the Client Security Board.
The Minnesota Supreme Court created the Client Security Board and a related monetary Fund in 1987 to consider claims for reimbursement when a lawyer has dishonestly taken client funds. This important work is an integral part of the legal profession’s efforts to improve the public’s perception of lawyers, and is a concrete way to correct the wrongs of attorneys who misappropriate client funds.
The Board meets approximately four times per year to consider claims. The Board reviews claims for compensation that have been investigated by staff and makes final determinations on disbursement from the Fund. The time commitment for service includes attendance at these meetings (approximately 2 hours in length) and review of materials provided in advance. Additional projects related to the work of the Board are periodically undertaken. Meeting attendance includes both virtual and in-person (downtown St. Paul) options.
Familiarity with the professional responsibility system in Minnesota is desirable but not mandatory. Training is provided. The Board is composed of five lawyers and two non-lawyers, all Minnesotans. Compensation is limited to reimbursement for costs.
