Elimination of “Copy-Plain - $8.00 each” Optional Service from eFile and eServe (eFS)

Elimination of “Copy-Plain - $8.00 each” Optional Service from eFile and eServe (eFS)

What is happening? As part of the omnibus Judiciary and Public Safety bill passed at the end of the 2023 legislative session, the Minnesota Legislature has eliminated the statutory requirement for courts to charge an $8 fee for copies of uncertified (plain) court documents found in Minn. Stat. 357.021, subd. 2(2). See 2023 Minn. Laws ch. 52, art 3, § 2. The elimination of the statutory fee goes into effect July 1, 2023.

What does this mean for eFilers? Beginning July 1, 2023, if requesting uncertified (plain) copies through eFS, filers will no longer have the ability to add Copy-Plain - $8.00 each in the Optional Services and Fees section. When submitting a request for uncertified (plain) copies in a non-criminal case, filers should continue to use the “Copy Request” filing code but will no longer pay a copy fee.
