Security Screening
You should be aware that weapons and other dangerous implements are forbidden in all courthouse complexes in the Second Judicial District. You may be subject to weapons screening. If so, bags will be inspected, and you will be required to pass through a metal detector. If the detector goes off, security may use a hand-wand to search for metal.
Examples of Items that will be confiscated:
- Guns (Judicial Order signed July 21, 2016)
- Knives (including pen knives and key chain knives)
- Scissors (including nail scissors)
- Tasers
- Tools (screwdriver, hammer, box cutter)
- Aerosol spray (mace, pepper)
- Fingernail files and clippers
- Scissors
- Needles (knitting, crochet hooks and hair pins)
- Glass containers (perfume, liquid or food containers)
- Metal utensils
- Cameras
- Other items may be confiscated at the discretion of the Security Officer
Tips to reduce screening time:
- Put all small items, including loose change, in your jacket/coat pockets, bag, or briefcase. Loose metal items in your pockets slows the screening process.
- Remove jackets/coats, belts, watches, and heavy jewelry before approaching the screening checkpoint. Place in X-ray container.
There are three entrances to the Kellogg Courthouse - two at street level and one skyway level. Street access is available from both Kellogg Blvd. and 4
th Street sides of the building. The skyway entrance is located on the 4
th Street side of the building. Access Skyway through City Hall Annex and follow signs.
