Ignition Interlock Program

Overview

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Driver and Vehicle Services Division, operates an Ignition Interlock Device Program.  According to their website – “The Ignition Interlock Device Program enhances public safety by giving eligible alcohol offenders the option of having an ignition interlock device installed on his or her vehicle, helping to ensure safe and legal driving. The device is the size of a hand-held calculator and includes a blowing tube. It prevents a vehicle from starting if it detects a certain alcohol concentration level after the driver blows into the tube. The device is installed near the steering wheel and connected to the engine.”

The Tenth Judicial District has received a grant from the Department of Public Safety to help residents of the Tenth Judicial District with the costs associated with the Ignition Interlock Device Program and provide assistance with determining eligibility for the Program.
