Tips for Using the Self-Help Center

  • Visit the Minnesota Judicial Branch Help Topics before you come to the courthouse. The Help Topics have a great deal of information on common legal topics, as well as online tools that can assist you in completing forms. For some legal topics, these tools include “how-to” videos and tutorials. For others, you may find written, detailed instructions.
  • Please arrange for childcare. The Self-Help Center does not have a play area or toys for children. You and other self-represented litigants will need to be able to focus on legal issues without distraction.
  • Expect to spend some time on your legal issues, both on your own and at the Self-Help Center. You may not be able to take care of your legal issues in one visit.
  • Many legal issues are time sensitive and contain strict deadlines. If you are unaware of any potential deadlines, you should seek immediate legal advice. DO NOT wait for assistance from the Self-Help Center.
  • If you need assistance with electronic filing or electronic service please visit the eFile webpage.
