The Minnesota Judicial Branch Statewide Treatment Court Program is proud to offer a customized training series designed specifically for our justice system partners. Description
This session covers the critical issues surrounding defense counsel's participation in treatment courts. The presentation discusses the importance of defense counsel’s regular and consistent participation, the treatment court target population, due process issues, and other core competencies of defense counsel participation.
Learning Objectives:
Learners understand the importance of defense counsel's regular and consistent participation in treatment courts, especially in post-adjudication programs.
Learners understand the significance of the target population of high-risk and high-needs clients.
Learners understand their role in ensuring the due process rights of treatment court clients.
This session is designed to educate law enforcement officers on treatment court programs and the role law enforcement plays on the treatment court team. Law enforcement officers will gain a better understanding of treatment courts, collaborations, and interacting with team members/participants. Law enforcement officers will learn the core knowledge, skills and information necessary to be an effective part of the treatment court team. We have course modules to educate you on developing your role as a member of a treatment court team or your capacity to support safer communities through community engagement with the treatment court program in your jurisdiction

Understand the impact that law enforcement engagement has on a treatment court program and supporting research.
Prosecutors play an essential role in treatment courts, and research shows that treatment courts are more effective when prosecutors are well trained in the treatment court model and participate consistently in staffing meetings and court hearings. This session provides a detailed overview of prosecutor’s role, including how prosecutors balance their responsibilities as a team member with their obligation to protect public safety.

Understand the specific responsibilities of prosecutors in treatment courts and how they differ from those in traditional settings.
Identify key challenges for prosecutors in treatment courts and practical strategies for navigating these challenges.
Articulate evidence-based practices for prosecutors to help maximize treatment court effectiveness.
