Sixth Judicial District

Sixth Judicial District Administration is an administrative office overseeing the district courts in four counties in Northeast Minnesota. This office does not hear any cases. Court proceedings happen in the specific district courts that serve each county. For case-specific questions, please contact the district court in the county in which your case is filed. Links to the district courts are listed by county in the Overview Tab below.

Transcript Requests

A transcript is a written, word-for-word record of a hearing.  A court reporter attends each hearing (except in conciliation court) to record/report what was said by each person in the hearing.

Transcripts are not prepared unless a written request is made. The requesting person pays a fee directly to the court reporter before the court reporter prepares the transcript. Please check with the court reporter for their preferred method of payment. Credit/debit card payments are not accepted.
  • By Supreme Court Order (C1-84-2137) dated March 30, 2006, the Judicial Council is delegated the authority for setting the maximum rate charged for transcriptions. The following [per page] rates are established:
  1. The criminal and juvenile delinquency transcript rate is set at $4.25.
  2. The civil, family, probate, child protection, and sexual psychopathic personality/ sexually dangerous person (SPP/SDP) transcript rate is set at $5.75.
  3. The in forma pauperis (IFP) rate for all cases is set at $ 4.25 per page.
  4. Court reporters shall provide transcripts electronically. Paper transcripts will not be provided by court reporters.
  5. Court reporters shall file all transcripts into the MN Court Information System (MNCIS).
  6. The transcript rate for all expedited transcripts ordered shall be negotiable between the Official Court Reporter and the requesting party.

If a transcript has already been filed, a copy can be obtained in MN Court Records Online (MCRO) or by requesting a copy using the process below for copies of court records.

If a transcript has not been filed, a written request must be made to the court reporter. The court reporter will provide the cost and timeline for production of the transcript. Timelines for production can vary significantly.

Contact Court Administration at the courthouse where your hearing took place to obtain contact information for a court reporter.  Please have the case file number and date(s) of the hearing(s) that you are requesting transcripts for.

If you are requesting a transcript from a confidential case or hearing, you will need to file a form with Court Administration to allow a judge to decide if a transcript can be produced.
